Supercharger

The compressor is driven by a separate
belt directly from the crankshaft. Two
3-lobed rotors, set at an angle of 60
degrees to each other and coated with
epoxy resin for greater efficiency, rotate
without touching inside a housing, forcing
the inlet air out through the opposite
outlet port.

Since a permanently running
supercharger would demand too much
power from the engine, an
electromagnetic coupling controlled by the
engine management system engages the
supercharger only in the upper part-load
and full-load range.
